British Canoeing Canoe Award

Description

This intermediate paddling award is a combined training and assessment course which is designed to develop your personal canoe handling skills and help to develop your judgement and decision making so you have a fun and safe day out on the water.
Completing this course will enable you to feel confident in planning and undertaking canoe journeys on the water in winds up to and including Force 3, and on Grade 1 rivers with simple eddy lines.

• Choosing an appropriate paddling venue
• Understanding the weather
• What to wear and what to take with you
• Effectively paddling your canoe - forwards, backwards, sideways, stopping, manoeuvring, and        preventing a capsize
• How to enter, cross and exit a simple flow
• Decision making on open and moving water
• How to deal with a capsize: self-rescue and rescue of others
• A variety of canoe journeying techniques including use of a sail and a pole
• You will also go away with lots of ideas and inspiration for your own further development


Course Length

This course runs on two full days from 09:00 to 17:30
Attendees who do not meet the required level to achieve accreditation following the two-day course will be provided with a personal action plan and options to attend a re-assessment.
Coaching is provided by our expert team and we can provide equipment if needed; Please discuss your equipment needs with the team on making your booking.

British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award

9am-5.30pm both days 
Location: Doe Park Water Activity Centre, Denholme, BD13 4LN

This qualification, accredited by British Canoeing, gives those looking to become paddlesport activity instructors or group leaders, the skills to run safe, fun, taster or introductory sessions in very sheltered water environments in a range of craft suitable for beginners including kayaks, canoes, stand up paddle boards and sit on tops. This qualification is particularly useful for leaders or instructors working in clubs, schools, and youth groups.

Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT)

Description

The Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) is an action packed, hands on, single day course which covers everything you need to know about safety and rescue on sheltered water. Using kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards we will explore a range of tactics and techniques needed to keep yourself and others safe in the sheltered water environment. The training teaches you the key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment. These skills then form the foundations for safety and rescue throughout British Canoeing Awarding Body awards. The FSRT award is required prior to gaining further accreditation of the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award. 

All kit required will be provided. However please bring your own paddling kit and/or craft if you have these for review and discussion as part of the training.

The FSRT is accredited by British Canoeing and on completion of this day course you will receive your FSRT Certificate
