Physical Literacy Enactment in Schools
With growing concern about young people’s physical activity levels, motivation and wellbeing, physical literacy has never been more important. Sport England’s recent consensus statement highlights physical literacy as a vital foundation for helping children and young people lead active, healthy and fulfilling lives. This strand offers the opportunity to explore how physical literacy can be meaningfully embedded within school practice. Sessions will examine the concept of physical literacy and identify practical starting points for action, alongside guidance on designing and implementing a physical literacy-informed PE curriculum. Participants will also explore pedagogical and assessment approaches aligned with physical literacy principles.

Trauma-Informed PE
In the UK and worldwide, increasing numbers of children and young people are facing adversity, including abuse, neglect, violence, discrimination and family instability. Adverse childhood experiences are increasingly linked to long-term health and behavioural outcomes. As a result, many PE teachers and sports coaches are working with pupils who have experienced trauma, which can directly influence how young people learn, behave, move and relate to others in physical activity settings. This strand of the conference consists of three sessions led by academics and practitioners. Participants will explore the principles underpinning trauma-aware pedagogies in PE and broader sport contexts before engaging with practical examples of what trauma-aware PE and youth sport can look like in practice.
