First Aid Training

Welcome to the Leeds Beckett First Aid training information. 

Our University is approved by the Federation of First Aid Training Organisations (FOFATO) and the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) to deliver and award First Aid training and qualifications. (Certificate N°: 1634/96)

Carnegie Coach Education, a dedicated unit in the University, is responsible for the organisation, administration and delivery of professional training from a comprehensive portfolio of courses. You can attend one of our courses on a set date or we can also deliver an ‘offsite’ course at your chosen venue (subject to venue suitability and tutor availability)

NO VAT TO PAY ON ANY OF OUR COURSES

Leeds Beckett University is an eligible body for VAT purposes which means that it does not charge VAT on its supply of education and training. This makes us more competitive when compared to other providers who are not eligible bodies.

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINING

The British Heart Foundation are encouraging high awareness of AED machines in businesses and the community, therefore we have taken the initiative of including AED training on all of our First Aid courses .

Please be aware that ALL our first aid courses now include AED Training.

Since August 2000 Leeds Beckett has successfully provided first class training opportunities for a number of high profile organisations, including Leeds City Council, Education Leeds and West Yorkshire Sport, these courses are also available to our own students and staff, as well as external businesses and individuals in the community. Our reputation and the popularity of our First Aid training has resulted in a comprehensive calendar of courses covering all those listed above, where delivery is repeated throughout the year to accommodate interested individuals/ organisations.

It is the responsibility of an employer to decide how many employees are trained as First Aiders, as well as which type of training they need. Assessing the risks of your workplace and referring to HSE regulations on the appropriate requirements for your organisation will help you make the right decision. To help make find the most suitable course for you/ your employees, please refer to the following guide.
When qualified, if a first aider may need to treat any of the injuries/ conditions listed below, then attendance on a full First Aid at Work course (3 days) is essential:
Administer first aid to a casualty with:
-  injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries.
-  chest injuries
-  burns and scalds
-  eye injuries
-  sudden poisoning
-  anaphylactic shock
Recognise the presence of major illnesses and provide appropriate first  aid, including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma and diabetes.

Emergency First Aid At Work with AED

Description

These courses are available to Leeds Beckett Students, Leeds Beckett staff and Tennis Coaches as part of the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) CDC partnerships.

The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is a competency based course, designed to train individuals in both theoretical and practical aspects of First Aid in low risk environments, such as offices, shops and libraries.
This course can also include Low Risk sporting environments too so ideal for those involved in sporting activities such as a referee, coach or player Sporting examples can also be included for any coaches so suitable for all Tennis coaches.

First Aid Training

First Aid - Basic Skills FA / Annual Update

Description

The First Aid – Basic Skills First Aid/ Annual Update with Automated External Defibrillator training is for those wishing to update their skills within any 3 year period of completing the First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work qualifications.

It is recommended that first aiders undertake annual refresher training.

The First Aid – Basic Skills First Aid/ Annual Update also acts as a first level qualification for those wishing to gain basic knowledge of what to do in an emergency.

This qualification may be suitable for those wishing to gain a basic First Aid qualification (3.5 hours) as a pre-requisite for various National Governing Body coach education qualifications.

Description

Please note that this course is for candidates who hold a current 3-day First Aid at Work qualification, who are approaching their expiry date and those candidates only.

This qualification is especially suited for nominated workplace first aiders looking to gain comprehensive knowledge of First Aid. With First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) approval this course is also ideal for those involved in environments where an automated external defibrillator is available.

First Aid At Work With AED (3 Day)

Description

The 3-day First Aid at Work with Automated External Defibrillator Training qualification is an intensive, competency based course, designed to train individuals in both theoretical and practical aspects of First Aid to the standards required by the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

 This qualification is especially suited for nominated workplace first aiders looking to gain a comprehensive knowledge of First Aid training. With First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) approval this course is also ideal for those involved in environments where an automated external defibrillator is available in an emergency.

Paediatric First Aid with AED - 2 Day

Description

The PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID -2 day qualification is a competency based course, designed to train individuals in both theoretical and practical aspects of First Aid for those involved in caring for young children and infants. 


This course is ideal for teachers working in Early Years primary education, day and private nurseries, before and after school clubs and registered child minders. This qualification meets the standards required by Ofsted Early Years and the Chidlcare Register


The DFE Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage recommends at least one person with a full ( 2 day ) PFA qualification must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present, and also on outings. The 2 day trained staff can be supported by staff holding the emergency PFA certificate
