The Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement is awarded by the Institute of Acoustics to those who successfully complete a course at an accredited centre such as Leeds Beckett University.
It is aimed at those who manage environmental noise emissions and at those responsible for enforcing environmental noise standards
DATES OF COURSE
Taught sessions for the course will be delivered on Monday 12th - Thursday 15th September
Revision of the course content and the IOA Examination will take place on Friday 7th October
The syllabus covers:
Basic noise concepts.
Instrumentation for environmental noise measurement.
Environmental noise indices and measurement methodology.
Legislation and codes of practice relating to noise from road, rail and air traffic, mineral extraction, planning and construction.
The Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement is awarded by the Institute to those who complete the five-day course, pass a 2½ hour exam, and successfully complete a practical test. The exam and practical test are normally conducted at the end of the course.
We have been teaching this course since 1998. Participants have included Environmental Health Officers, consultants and those working for mineral extraction and transport undertakings.
A certain amount of calculation is involved, and although this can be done by means of published charts and diagrams, we recommend the use of a scientific calculator (i.e. one with a LOG key)
