We are excited to be delivering the North East Coaches Day on Thursday February 16th 2023.  The below content delivery follows consultation with local coaches to further develop their knowledge on the key areas and network with fellow coaching colleagues to share best practice and problem solving.

The first section will cover the NEW LTA Coaching Qualification Pathway and importantly, share ideas about Coach and Volunteer Deployment (Coaching v Facilitating Activity).

Following the above, the group will be split into two and complete the below on court, practical sessions. 

The day will close with a presentation regarding LGBTQ+.

 

  1. Helping to support players with a Learning Disability (focusing on Autism and Aspergers Syndrome). Louise Assioun

Louise Assioun will share her expertise in inclusion.  Louise is the Director at LUSU Sports Ltd - Inclusive Sport Training and Products.  Self-employed Tutor, Coach Mentor and Consultant.  Technical Advisor & Freelance Coach at Battle Back Centre, Lilleshall.  Head Coach – GB Blind & Visually Impaired Tennis Team and Coach Education Tutor.
Louise is also a Coach Advisor on the VI Advisory Group (GB), along with IBTA Technical Advisory Group Member and wheelchair tennis coach & Coach Education Tutor.

Louise will deliver the below to help support players with a Learning Disability

  • Intro to Sensory Tennis
  • Focus on Autism and Aspergers Syndrome 
  • Creating a safe learning environment on and off the court
  • Pathways and links to Mencap, Sense, AoC Sport 

2.    Developing Better 10 & Under Players

Simon Wheatley is an International Coach Education & Player Development Consultant. Formerly LTA Performance Coach Education Manager, he was responsible for the development of Performance Coaches across British Tennis.  He is an author of 2 books, 3 Coaching Qualification's and over 50 CPD workshops.  He has spoken in over 50 countries around the world and consults with 17 Tennis Federations around the world.

Simon will deliver an on-court session covering:

  • Teaching technique in Squads 
  • Tactical development through Red Orange & Green 
  • Dozens of practical easy to set up drills for developing rallying skills with players 
  • Successfully transitioning players through the ball colours 

3.   Taking Pride into your coaching programme.  Ian Pearson - Brown

How to provide simple solutions to remove complex barriers problems for players, coaches, volunteers and officials, who identify as LGBTQ+.

  •  LGBTQ+ identities
  • Health inequalities and barriers to sport for LGBTQ+ people
  • How to make your programme attractive to the LGBTQ+ communities
  • Retaining LGBTQ+ players
  • The importance of language and how to deal with HBT phobia
  • The benefits of an LGBTQ+ inclusive programme
