TENNIS LTA Coach (Level 3)

You must meet all the course pre-requisites and
be able to attend all the course dates listed below at the same venue. Under no circumstance can a candidate miss parts of the course or move between venues.

If you want to become a full-time tennis coach, our LTA Coach Qualification course is for you. Once you’ve completed this coach qualification, you’ll be trained to: 

  • Coach beginners and improvers in groups and as individuals. 
  • Understand the basics of business management. 
  • Understand the competitive structure in the UK. 
  • Manage the work of LTA Assistants and Instructors.

 Course Pre-requisites

  • Be LTA Accredited  or hold a DBS/PVG Enhanced Check with Child Barred List certificate (Volunteer certificates cannot be accepted) applied for through LTA/Tennis Scotland. The certificate must be less than 12 months old from the start date of the course. A DBS can be accepted if you are on the Update Service - see here for more details. Please note that it may take at least eight weeks for a DBS to be processed and you must hold a valid LTA DBS certificate upon booking.  
  • Have (or have had) a rating of 6.1 (post 2003) or better, have successfully completed the Coach Readiness Test or have previously completed a Play Test (at a minimum of Grade 1).  The Readiness Test can take up to two weeks to be assessed once submitted - please allow sufficient time for this when signing up for the course.  
  • Hold a valid certificate of competence in either First Aid at Work(FAW), Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), Paediatric First Aid or will have successfully completed the OFQUAL Level 3 in First Aid.

All places are subject to availability and undertaking a pre-course conversation with the tutor to help understand the requirements and demands of the course.

Please note there are some pre-course tasks to be completed, these will be explained to you via email prior to the start date. You will need to have a Mentor who should be a Level 3/4/5 coach who will commit to your development.

Course Duration

  • The course is 12 days (four modules lasting three days each), plus a video-based assessment.  
  • Nine hours of coaching experience between each module.We strongly recommend that you have appropriate insurance cover when undertaking supervised experienced hours. 
  • On Day 12 of the course coaches will undertake the group lesson Summative Assessment requirement with the rest of the course cohort and feedback will be presented by the Tutor(s) on the day. The outcome of the assessment will not necessarily be communicated on the day.

    • Assessments are recorded by you (using smartphone equipment and Bluetooth headphones) during a real-life lesson of your choice and then submitted virtually by video upload.  
    • Coaches who have completed their Level 3 course will be required to book their individual lesson Summative Assessment on the LTA Course Search Tool.  

    Once your Assessment been marked by our LTA Qualification Assessors, you’ll be notified whether you have passed the course or will require a reassessment. In either case, you will receive expert feedback and an action plan to further develop your coaching from one of our Assessors.

Any missed deadlines will incur a late marking fee of £75 initially. Deadlines will be set by the tutor during the course.

Financial Implications for applicants not attending courses

The following cancellation policies apply for Coach Education Qualifications

  • Before 20 working days of the start date - full Refund OR Fee Transfer
  • Between 20 & 11 working days of the start date - £10 Admin Charge deducted from your refund
  • Between 10 working days to the start date - NO refund or transfer
